People of Perley - Bobby Samson

Bobby Samson feels at home in his adopted country of Canada, thanks in large part to his career at Perley Health. Soon after emigrating from the Philippines in 2011, he heard about Perley Health from some friends who worked here. 

“They told me it was a great place to work,” says Bobby, “and that there are many opportunities to grow as a professional and as an individual. It's also special for me because I have a passion for taking care of elderly people.”

Within a month, Bobby began volunteering at Perley Health and enrolled in a Personal Support Worker certificate program. His wife got a job as a nutrition aide at Perley Health, and they settled into a home nearby. Once Bobby earned his PSW certificate, he started working at various long-term care homes, including Perley Health, but only part-time.

“I worked in different places but wanted to stick with Perley Health because of the opportunities to learn and grow,” he says. “Also, I like the warm, welcoming, multicultural environment. I come from a different culture and background, and at the Perley, I feel like I'm always welcome. This has become my second home.” 

The advantages of working at Perley Health were attractive enough for Bobby to change his career path. 

“My goal was always to get a full-time job so that I could have some time with my kids and my family,” says Bobby. “One day, a full-time position opened at Perley Health in housekeeping, so I applied and I got it.”

Since then, Bobby has moved up to Housekeeping Supervisor. He finds the job fulfilling and loves his work environment.

“It makes me happy to see the smiles on the faces of residents when we give our best,” he says. “I can see myself working here until I retire, because I feel the warmth of the people who live and work here.”
