March 4, 2025

We're excited to share the recent progress on the upcoming Intergenerational Childcare Centre at Perley Health, in partnership with Andrew Fleck Children's Services!

What's New?

We are pleased to announce that the City of Ottawa approved 49 childcare spaces under the Ontario Early Learning and Child Care Agreement to be operated by Andrew Fleck Children's Services. These spaces will cater to children from infancy through to kindergarten age.

The childcare centre will be located on the first floor of Perley Centre, across from the pharmacy.

The childcare centre's design is nearly complete, and the building permit application has been submitted to the City of Ottawa.

A Unique Experience for All Generations

A unique feature of the childcare service is the intergenerational programming, where children and seniors will interact and can build meaningful relationships.

Renovations and a building expansion are required to create an inspiring and accommodating environment for both generations. It is a purpose–designed and purpose-built space where interactions between seniors and children flourish. Guided by feedback from our community including experts and participants in the current intergenerational programs at Perley Health, the childcare centre will foster enriching experiences for everyone.

Exclusive Benefit for Perley Health Staff

We know many of our team members are eager for this childcare service! The childcare centre will offer priority access to Perley Health staff at $10 per day under the Canada-Wide Early Learning & Child Care (CWELCC) System.

The plan is to open in mid-2026 -- potentially in time for Perley's 30th anniversary in June!

Registration for children to attend the childcare centre will be through the City of Ottawa's centralized waiting list. We will provide information and details on registration in future updates. It is expected that registration will open when construction starts on the childcare centre.

We'll provide plenty of advance notice on the construction schedule and plans. We will alert everyone when the waitlist opens.

Bridging Generations: Strengthening Connections Across Ages

With the generous support of our donors, the Bridging Generations campaign is raising $2 million to expand and enhance Perley Health's intergenerational program. This initiative will create dedicated spaces where meaningful connections between seniors, Veterans, and children can thrive - spaces designed with warmth, accessibility, and community at their core.

Campaign funds will support the development of program rooms, activity areas, and outdoor spaces tailored to foster interaction. Whether through crafting, storytelling, gardening, or sharing meals, these purpose-built environments will remove barriers and bring two generations together in natural and impactful ways.

By strengthening these connections, we're enriching lives, reducing isolation, and creating a more vibrant and inclusive community for everyone at Perley Health.
