Long Term Care P.S.W. Supervisor
Temporary Full-Time
Summary of Duties:
The PSW Supervisor, reports to the Manager of Resident Care and provides daily supervision of PSW staff. The Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision, support, guidance, hiring, mentoring, education and performance development to a team of PSWs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures PSWs qualifications are in compliance with Long-Term Care legislation.
- Ensures PSWs practice according to standards set out by the province of Ontario.
- Supervises PSW performance of resident care, services and resources required to deliver quality resident-centered care.
- Collaborates with Managers Resident Care and other managers to obtain feed-back on the specifics or irregularities in resident care needs.
- Participates in the review of policies and procedures.
- Participates in Quality Improvements and Risk Management activities.
- Reviews workload and resident acuity with care teams to determine efficient use of resources; recommends changes/additions to the Manager Resident Care.
- Meets regularly with PSW's, communicating changes, education, mentoring and expectations.
- Utilizes leadership and management skills to identify and resolve problems.
- Investigates resident care concerns and complaints.
- Ensures adherence to all Perley Health policies, procedures and practices, including those related to Safety and Risk Management.
- Builds relationships with families and significant others to improve resident outcomes.
- Ensures adherence to all safety and risk management practices, including follow up of employee incidents to ensure corrective action.
- Engages with resident councils and internal committees as required.
- Coaches and ensures that evidence-based best practices are followed as per policy.
- Complete probationary reviews, performance evaluations, performance management and manage performance improvement plans.
- Fosters a good public image when dealing with the public.
- Establishes good labour relations through knowledge, interpretation and implementation of health centre policies and union contracts.
- Responsible for the hiring of PSW staff in collaboration with the Human Resources team.
- Attends grievance meetings and mediation as required.
- Reviews, approves/declines requests for time off and counsels PSWs on attendance management.
- Participates in union/management activities as required.
- Ensures yearly PSW mandatory education is completed.
- Assists with orientation of new employees and students.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education & Experience:
- Secondary School Diploma
- Personal Support Worker Certificate in compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 regulations for PSW qualifications
- Experience working as a PSW in long term care
- Experience working in a supervisory capacity
Skills & Competencies:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Long-Term Care, Palliative Care and Dementia Care
- Excellent Verbal and Written communication skills
- Interpersonal skills to work with peers, residents/families and direct care staff
- GPA Certificate
- Current CPR certificate
- Leadership skills
- Microsoft Office Package
- Working knowledge of: RAI MDS
- Working knowledge of Point Click Care (PCC) and Point of Care (POC) Documentation
