Program Coordinator – Senior Active Living Centre

Full-Time

Summary of Duties:

The Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) offers social and recreational programs for independent community adults aged 55+. Under the supervision of the Manager, Community Programs, the Program Coordinator facilitates programming, processes memberships, and responds to inquiries from families, community members, and stakeholders (e.g., hospitals, OHH, social service agencies).

The Coordinator works closely with partners, facilitators, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure participant safety and program quality. Responsibilities include promoting program benefits, providing resources, supporting psychosocial needs, and collaborating with Communications for outreach. The role is also accountable for developing strategies to retain current participants and attract new ones.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Social and Recreation:

  • Receive and respond to participant inquiries and referrals from social service organizations, and other referral sources, in a timely fashion.
  • Communicates with participants and take necessary steps to work with external partners to provide excellent programs to meet the five domains of participant well-being.
  • Follows the APIE process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic recreation programs within the SALC program.
  • Develops program schedule
  • Provide leisure education and psychosocial support to participants/families.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the continuum of care for seniors' health.

Planning, Organization, Implementation and Evaluation Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates day to day operations and delivery of programs for SALC.
  • Assists in the development of overall program goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Creates monthly calendar through collaboration with community partners and interests from participants.
  • Documents attendance in accordance with best practice for data and evaluation metrics and escalates to Manager, as appropriate.
  • Ensures accurate and legible documentation to meet program funding requirements and effective communication.

Administration:

  • Participates in program-wide quality improvement projects that improve the wellness and service to participants as required.
  • Responsible for overseeing and managing a recreation program, including budgeting and financial management, coordinating, and scheduling services, and data and evaluation alongside the Manager of Community Programs.
  • Collaborates with the finance department to ensure a clear process for the tenant financial process
  • Promotes the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Participates in orientation of new staff and volunteers as required.
  • Follows principles of PHIPA.

Professional Development:

  • Meets on a regular basis with the Manager, Community Programs
  • Participates in continuous education opportunities to maintain a current and accurate knowledge base and applies best practices to the environment.
  • Maintains professional and ongoing communication with community partners and stakeholders to develop positive relationships
  • Participates in quality assurance activities and evaluation of the statistics of programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Upholds the policies and procedures of Perley Health.

Promotional Activities

  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to lead preparation and implementation of promotional and advertising strategies, plans and objectives for marketing the SALC program
  • Stay informed and attend meetings as needed to update brand and promotional materials for SALC.
  • Collaborate with the Perley Health Foundation for fundraising opportunities

Tenant Engagement in Seniors' Living

  • Establish together with internal and external stakeholders an engagement -based strategy that keeps tenants. engaged, active and combats social isolation.
  • Work with tenants to fulfill their tenant obligations (pay rent, keep units clean, get along with neighbors).
  • Explore funding opportunities (internal and external resources) to offer holistic approach to senior living.
  • Develop regular tenant communications keep tenants informed of their community, in collaboration with Tenant Support Coordinator.
  • Develop monthly newsletters and calendars of events to keep tenants informed.
  • Attend Tenant Council, and other engagement committees, monthly, alongside tenants within Seniors' Living.

Education & Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in Therapeutic Recreation (or related degree) with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of health and wellness as it relates to the aging process
  • Minimum 2 years of experience delivering recreational programs for adults/seniors. Day Program or fitness experience is an asset.
  • Experience recruiting, interviewing and managing multiple volunteers at once
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit environment preferred
  • Previous experience working with community services sector and/or hospital setting is an asset

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven ability to function effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Previous experience working with seniors and those at-risk is an asset
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, organizational skills, and attendance record.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset
