Summer Youth Program Assistant

Temporary Full-Time; 

May 5, 2025 - Aug 29, 2025

$18.50 + 4% in lieu of benefits 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Assists Coordinator, Volunteer Services, Volunteer Services Clerk and Veteran Liaison Coordinator with recruitment, screening, selection, matching and mentoring youth volunteers
  • Creates, maintains and communicates Summer Youth volunteer schedules
  • Assists with the orientation of new youth volunteers for summer, including co-facilitation of full-day orientation session
  • Greets youth volunteers as they come on duty each weekday during July and August and escorts them to placement area, as needed
  • Reminds youth and monitors compliance of proper procedures regarding infection prevention & control, dress code, signing-in/out, etc.
  • Orients new volunteers to the residential units re layout, usual duties, introduction to staff on the unit, etc.
  • Communicates and distributes relevant information to staff supervisors and colleagues in Volunteer Services
  • Models the ideals of the Summer Youth Program and Perley Health Core Values
  • Works with staff to develop and schedule new volunteer opportunities during the summer
  • Assists with organizing recognition event
  • Meets regularly with Volunteer Services staff re progress of youth volunteers
  • Prepares a final program report at the end of the summer
  • Provides clerical support to Volunteer Services, including filing, data entry, photocopying, etc.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Secondary School diploma
  • No work experience, but some volunteer experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to communicate with youth volunteers and staff
  • Ability to function compatibly and effectively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility and openness to new ideas.
  • Previous experience and skill as a volunteer.
  • Knowledge of long-term care setting would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
